The MVU Biodiesel Project

The Project

The project has been designed, built, and now operates a small, self-sufficient biodiesel production facility that runs on both used-cooking oil and Jatropha plant oil. The fuel is used directly to contribute to the development of Maharishi Vedic University (MVU), its students, and the surrounding communities.

This project is the first of its kind in Cambodia, creating a model of decentralised, sustainable energy production that can be replicated around the country.

The project produces an environmentally friendly, sustainable, alternative biofuel which is used for the MVU campus and local market energy needs.

Initially this is being made from waste vegetable oil that is donated to MVU. Later, oil will be extracted from plants that MVU is currently growing, and then made into biodiesel.

The money saved from purchasing fossil-fuel diesel will be used to develop the country's only rural university, improve the quality of education in Cambodia, and contribute to the growth and development of the surrounding communities.
